The Boyhood Dream
March 31, 1996. The Arrowhead Pond. Fans witnessed what Vince McMahon called, “unquestionably . . . the single greatest athletic event in World Wrestling Federation history.” At 61 minutes and 52 seconds, the Iron Man match between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels was an instant classic.
For Shawn Michaels, the moment was 18 years in the making—the culmination of nearly two decades of traveling, training and working his way up the wrestling ranks for the opportunity to win the championship. After the final bell sounded, Michaels sat in awe as he was awarded the title. The boyhood dream had come true.
